Top Parks to Camp in Ontario in the Fall

Ontario is known for its beautiful fall foliage and this time of year it starts to hit its peak.  Where are the best places to view and camp at this fall? We’ve got a list of a few to check out.

    Bon Echo Provincial Park

Known for its 100m high Mazinaw Rock, this archaic rock features unique markings called aboriginal pictographs.

The park itself features plenty of outdoor activities, still enjoyable in the fall.  Canoeing and hiking throughout the park offer great views of the fall foliage and beautiful countryside.  Campgrounds and backcountry camping is available, including some roofed camping.

    Killarney Provincial Park

Some might say Killarney offers the best views of fall foliage in Ontario.  “The Crack” as it is known offers a beautiful panoramic view of the entire park, the lakes and LaCoche Mountains. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy including hiking and biking trails, and fishing and boating in the lakes.

There are plenty of camping sites available including backcountry camping and roofed camping.

    Quetico Provincial Park

Quetico is a beautiful wilderness park with towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls.  Covered in lush pine forests and glistening rivers this park is a must stay at in the fall.  The activities are endless and include hiking and biking trails, birdwatching and wildlife viewing.  There are designated canoeing routes along the rivers and the weather is perfect in the fall.

Camping in Quetico Provincial Park is more for those looking to camp in the backcountry because it is a wilderness park and there is not much in the way of developed land.

    Sleeping Giant

A more popular park in Ontario is Sleeping Giant.  Known for its giant rocky land mass that looks like a sleeping giant when viewed from certain angles, many people flock here just to view the rock formation, but the park has so much more to offer.

There are over 80km of trails for hiking and biking.  The wildlife roams about providing ample opportunities for pictures and nature watching.

Camping within Sleeping Giant includes car camping, group camping and backcountry camping.  So come prepared with warm tents and sleeping bags, because the nights can get a little chilly in the fall.  However, it is worth it being able to look up at the giant starry sky and enjoy the beautiful colors of the fall before snowfall takes over.
