    Winter Activities in Thunder Bay

If you have spent any time living in Canada, you know that it can get pretty frigid this time of year. But that doesn’t mean you have to sit on the couch this winter! Snow and the cold can bring some inconveniences, but it also provides a lot of really unique and fun activities! We will give you a list of great winter activities to do before the weather gets warmer. Take a look!

    Camping

We would be remiss if we didn't tell you to go camping! Going camping in the winter can be hard, but if you find the right areas, winter camping can be a truly amazing experience. There is something different about winter camping that is hard to explain. Some people describe it as the most peaceful type of camping, and we really can't argue with that. The snow falling off the trees. The whispering wind sweeping the snow around. Winter camping in Thunder Bay and Northwest Ontario is truly a great site!

If you are looking for a great place to camp during the winter, give Sleeping Giant Provincial Park a try! With great views of Lake Superior, more than 200 camp sites and plenty of activities and trails, this is a great place to participate in winter camping with friends and family!

    Ice Skating

One of the most affordable, fun and convenient things to do is simply take an afternoon and go ice skating! No matter if you are just starting out or a seasoned veteran, everyone can benefit from a quick skate! There are plenty of places around town to skate if you don't want to risk it on grandma's pond. Here are a few affordable options for you to dust those skates off and show everyone what you got!

    Delaney Arena

    Skating Available Fridays - 7:15 - 8:45 pm

    Grandview Arena

Skating Available: Fridays from 7:45 - 9:15 pm  and Sundays from 1:15 - 2:45 pm

    Neebing Arena

    Sundays from 2 - 3:30 pm

    Ice Fishing

For those fishermen and women that just can't get enough fishing, Thunder Bay offers some pretty neat ice fishing areas as well! If you have never been ice fishing before, it is definitely an experience worth having. There are a couple good spots that are relatively close to Thunder Bay including Lac des Mille Lacs and Lake Superior’s Black Bay. If you are new to Ice Fishing, make sure you go with someone that has done it before. Trust us, it will make it a lot easier!

    Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling around Thunder Bay is one of the more unique things to try this winter! One of the main things you need to be aware of when snowmobiling is safety. Although it can be fun to go as fast as possible, it is good to remember to be aware of your surroundings and watch your speed. If you don't have a snowmobile and are looking for a day or two of fun, don't worry! There are plenty of places around that rent snowmobiles. Take in some amazing scenery from an entirely new perspective! For more information, click here.
